Winemaker Notes
The soils are sandy with the presence of friable calcareous marls. In the vinification phase, after a soft pressing of the grapes the wine remains to ferment and macerate for a couple of days, is then left on the lees for the following 6 months. Golden straw-colored with surprisingly thick tears given that this isn’t a high alcohol wine. Elegant nose with aromas of citrus and honey. A very bright first impression on the palate and quite unique: most noticeable is pear and lemon, but then comes a hard-to-place note that I wrote down as “butterscotch.” Reminiscent of a German Riesling in flavor, and of Chardonnay in body.
The vineyards are at least 40 years old and they are grown in Guyot. The winery operates exclusively an organic agriculture with the use of only copper and natural sulfur compounds, weeding is not done but manual or mechanical mowing and the harvest is exclusively manual. The soils are sandy with the presence of friable calcareous marls.
The Story
This winery is the realization of a dream that has belonged to the Scarzello family for generations, and this is what makes this reality unique.
"We are the generations that preceded us, we are our ambitions and our visions, the daily commitment of our work, the continuous desire to improve and operate in a healthy and balanced territory, we are our wines." The words of Federico Scarzello, the third generation of winemakers on the family estate, well describe the vision that animates his daily work.
Five and a half hectares of vineyards and a small family winery located in the charming village of Barolo with the ambition of bringing the excellence and authenticity of that territory into the bottle. Today these principles feed the philosophy that has allowed the company to grow generation after generation: supporting quality rather than taste trends and always safeguarding the elegance and freshness of the wine.
