Lombardy can be divided into three totally different sub-areas: Valtellina, on the slopes of the central Alps in Lombardy, where Nebbiolo has the feel of the mountains while impersonating Chiavennasca, Franciacorta with its sparkling wine production from the Classic Method based on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and the Otrepo Pavese which alternates between still and sparkling wines, mainly from Barbera, Pinot Nero and Riesling Italico grapes.
