Winemaker Notes

The biodynamic farm of Podere Casaccia is only a few kilometers from Florence in the heart of Tuscany. Home to generations of winemakers, every step of the wine making process is carried out with the utmost care and attention.

The Sine Felle Riserva is made up of a mix of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera grapes from old cloned vines, with all harvesting done by hand, and all vinified at the same time with indigenous yeasts and no added sulphites. A pre-fermentation maceration is done for around 48 hours, followed by punching down and pumping every 6 hours for around 20 days until fermentation is finished. The Sine Felle Riserva wine is aged in French oak barrels before a further 6 month aging in the bottle. Certified organic and biodynamic.

The Story

It's rare that we go to a wine fair, but we were grateful to have gone this time. We caught sight of our colleague Nicole tasting wines at their table of Podere Casaccia and Alessandro suddenly says, why have I never thought about them for the wine club!

Months later we head up to meet them. Roberto and Lucia are two lovely people - Lucia especially for her hospitality. The purchase of this small property by Roberto Moretti took place in 1999 and is the result of an ancestral passion for the land and for nature, handed down to him by his family of winemaking tradition for generations. He then begins to focus on biodynamics and to allow nature to guide him.

Tuscany lacks a bit of this culture so we were thrilled to sort through the mess to find such a lively expression for you to try. Sine Felle Riserva is an ex libris from the end of the 16th century, found during the renovation of the cellar. The expression is found for the first time in the treatise by Cornelio Celso, a famous doctor of the first century AD. Roundness and non-aggressiveness are the common denominators.
