Winemaker Notes

Blend of Primitivo vines with an average age of 40 years. New vineyard planted in 2005 with cuttings taken from the historicl vineyards "Vecchie Vigne " and "La Signora". It is located about 3km from the Ionian sea. The soils are red sandy clay over limestone. The Primitivo bunches are handpicked and destemmed directly in small open fermenters then pressed in a hydraulic vertical press. Fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts only and the must matures in old oak barrels for 10 months. The wine is racked 2 or 3 times before bottling without filtration.  A wine where fruit is succulent without being cloying.
