Winemaker Notes
DBE is produced by the De Bartoli family at Tenuta Solisciaro, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, where vineyards lie around 500 meters above sea level on alluvial soils of clay and limestone.
The estate follows a natural approach in both vineyard and cellar, with hand-harvesting and no chemical treatments. The wine is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, pressed directly and vinified as a white wine. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel, followed by six months of aging on fine lees. The second fermentation occurs in bottle according to the Metodo Classico, with 18 months of maturation on the lees before disgorgement. No dosage is added, resulting in a pure and vibrant expression of Etna’s volcanic terroir, combining freshness, salinity, and mineral depth.
Story
Marco De Bartoli is a legendary name in Sicilian wine, best known for redefining Marsala through authenticity and uncompromising quality. Today his children carry the same spirit forward, with Renato leading the Etna project at Tenuta Solisciaro.
Here, Nerello Mascalese finds a new voice in both still and sparkling wines, crafted with the same respect for nature and artisanal precision that has always defined the De Bartoli philosophy.
We love this producer not only for the family’s pioneering history, but also for their ability to express Sicily’s diverse terroirs with purity, elegance, and soul. DBE Metodo Classico is a perfect example: an honest, mineral, and vibrant wine that captures both the volcanic energy of Etna and the De Bartoli family’s enduring vision.
