Winemaker Notes
The Verdicchio grapes come from a 1975 vineyard planted on soil rich in calcareous clay with the presence of underground aquifers. The 2023 vintage was characterized by a very rainy spring and summer. This produced grapes with good acidity to the detriment of the yield which favored the concentration of aromas in the few bunches obtained. After the manual harvesting of the grapes in small boxes, the entire bunch is softly pressed without destemming. This is followed by static decantation of the must for 2 days and spontaneous fermentation. 6 months of aging in cement and a further 6 months in the bottle before marketing.
2000 bottles produced exclusively for the Roscioli Wine Club
The Story
La Staffa winery is the artisan spokesperson of the classic territory of Castelli di Jesi, an area that gives some of the most appreciated white wines in all of Italy where Verdicchio grape is the undisputed star. The winery operates within the municipality of Staffolo, in Contrada Castellaretta, in the southern area of the denomination. At the helm of the estate is the young Riccardo Baldi, a talented and skilled producer who passionately safeguards the territory. The municipality of Staffolo has always been linked to winemaking, so much so that, according to a local legend, the name Staffolo derives from the Greek term "staphilé", which means "bunch of grapes".
