Winemaker Notes

Granazza grapes are harvested by hand from high-altitude vineyards in the Mamoiada area. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, typically in stainless steel or neutral vessels, allowing the grape’s natural structure and freshness to emerge without external influence. Maceration is gentle, preserving aromatic definition. Aging occurs in neutral containers to maintain clarity and textural precision rather than adding oak character.

The Story

Sardinian wines have not yet hit the international focus, but grower by grower, bottle after bottle, they are finding their way (one should recognize that bottling on the island has been very slow as wine could be sustained by locals and didn’t to hit the international market, meaning it was often only available by filling it up at your neighbors with an empty water bottle, but that means these grapes are not easily found or requested by the global market).

Federica Dessolis is part of a new generation in Sardinia that is fiercely protective of indigenous varieties. Granazza is one of those grapes that almost disappeared. Choosing to bottle it on its own is already a statement, and what a uniquely Sardinian grape it is. Federica works with respect for the land, farming in Gallura’s granite-influenced soils where wind and sun shape the fruit as much as any cellar decision. Granazza doesn’t rely on aromatics to impress. It’s about texture, salinity, and quiet persistence. We value this wine because it represents preservation, It keeps a lesser-known Sardinian grape alive and relevant.
