Winemaker Notes
The grapes are cultivated on steep terraced vineyards overlooking the Ligurian Sea, harvested manually due to the extreme terrain. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, typically in stainless steel, with careful maceration to preserve freshness and aromatic lift. Aging takes place in neutral containers, allowing the wine to maintain its vibrant acidity and saline character without dominant oak influence.
The Story
Possa is a winery born from Cinque Terre’s heroic viticulture - steep terraces, hands in the soil, vines that cling to the rock above the sea. The team at Possa chooses to farm and vinify with as little interference as possible, letting the sea breeze, the salt, and the steep terrain speak through the wine. “Niegru” is a wine that carries that ethos forward. It comes from those narrow amphitheater-like terraces where everything has to be done by hand. There’s no convenience here. Just commitment to place and to preserving the landscape’s identity (which is literally crumbling away on a daily basis) and immense biodiversity. We love this wine because it honors that tension - the contrast between mountain and sea, between stone and vine and the joy that comes from accomplishing things from difficult circumstances.
