Winemaker Notes

Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Municipality of Barbaresco, in the Rio Sordo valley, from vineyards facing south-west. In the vineyard there is the utmost respect for the environment.

After the harvest in the first week of October, the pomace remains in contact with the must for 3 weeks, kept in immersion by pumping over for the entire period of alcoholic fermentation.

The malolactic fermentation takes place in the cellar at a temperature of 20 ° C in traditional Slavonian oak barrels of 10-17 hl for 22 months. There are no filtrations and clarifications.

The Story

Giovanna Rizzolio's family has owned Cascina delle Rose since the 1940s. Her grandparents, Beatrice and Ferdinando, bought the estate after falling in love with the countryside: the Valle del Rio Sordo with its small railway station and the vineyards arranged on the hillside; in the background a series of majestic castles from La Morra to Asti and on the horizon the Alps from Monviso to Monte Rosa.

The overall extension of the estate is 5 hectares of which 4 are vineyards and the production has reached 24,000 bottles of wine per year. These are vineyards located in the Rio Sordo and Tre Stelle Crus, known to be among the best in the Barbaresco area.

Here, the soils are densely stratified, from blue marls (tuffs) to calcareous soils and with a notable mineral component. The stratification is dense and varied, rich in minerals and natural springs. A combination that gives elegance and finesse to the wines. Respect for the environment at every stage of production make wines that are absolutely authentic and linked to the territory, in perfect balance between tradition and elegance.
