Winemaker Notes
Cirò Superiore Riserva wine is obtained from 100% Gaglioppo grapes, coming from sapling vines of about 15 years old grown in hilly areas and which rest on clayey-limestone soils. The harvest takes place strictly by hand, with careful selection of the best bunches. The grapes are then transported to the cellar, where, after destemming and crushing, fermentation will take place spontaneously in cement tanks with maceration on the skins for about two weeks. Subsequent aging in cement before bottling. Organic farming.
The Story
Cataldo Calabretta is one at the forefront of the 'Cirò Boys' leading the revolution happening in this zone with the local grape Gaglioppo - a light and tannic grape which almost can resemble a kind of light nebbiolo. Cataldo also helps to consult with other winemakers in the region to ensure that the community grows together. Make sure to enjoy this wine with some food for best enjoyment, and open it up a couple hours before drinking.
